Boosting Women’s Libido

For centuries, doctors didn’t have an answer for women who lost their sex drive as they underwent menopause. Now, they may have one – and it’s…testosterone! The answer may seem surprising, but it’s being used in a topical treatment called LibiGel, which menopausal or post-menopausal women can apply to their upper arms. Though estradiol is considered a female hormone and testosterone is a male hormone, men and women produce both in different amounts. During menopause, women lose nearly all estradiol production and most testosterone production. Taking estrogen can help combat other problems associated with menopause, but does nothing to restore a woman’s sex drive. Though the gel won’t be approved for public consumption until 2011, the gel could offer new hope to millions of couples.

But women (and their men) don’t have to wait! Testosterone supplementation is NOW available to women as it is to men in the form of compounded, bio-identical testosterone cream. The cream, which must be prescribed by a physician, is available at compounding pharmacies and is dispensed in a dosage suitable for women’s needs. As with all hormones, it is important to have the necessary tests to diagnose the testosterone deficiency in a woman and track her progress on the cream.

Yes! This is important information! And testosterone is also important to women for their mood-it has a positive effect, and their energy level as well as protecting their bones from osteoporosis.
It is very true that levels be checked initially and monitored while on supplementation as too much can cause acne breakouts and unwanted hair growth.
