cancer cures

Watching a bit of TV lst night, I caught a few minutes of a piece on 60 Minutes about the latest potential cure for cancer. This one utilized radio frequency generators to target tumors injected with metal, the heat generated killed the cancer cells. Don't get me wring, I think it's great to have something to offer those unfortuante patients whose health has been seriously compromised by cancer.

My issue is with the continued and overwhelming tactic of focusing on what to do once the cows have gotten out of the barn. We need to spend more time and research money on cancer prevention, we need to find a way to keep the cows in the barn in the first place! Its much cheaper and more humane to close the gate than it is to try to round up the herd out in the pasture! If necessary, lets spend less on treatment. I am certain that if we spent 10% of our health budget on prevention we would save ten times that amount in terms of reduced pain and suffering, insurance costs, hospital and medical care costs and productivity in the workplace.
