The Carb Conspiracy: Part 2

For Sedentary people and those who exercise little, the limit to carbohydrates they consume is a good thing. As we have already discussed, Carbohydrates are used for energy and are stored for future energy, but for those who don’t dip into those stores too much then it might be a good idea to restrict their daily amount of carbohydrates. Otherwise, sugar (glycogen in the body) builds up and causes the hormonal problems associated with insulin and a number of health issues we are surrounded by today. The visual consequence is obesity no longer seems to shock us; but the health issues that follow cannot be avoided.

Irresponsible eating and lack of exercise has already changed the face of our nation in a matter of a generation and without some very aggressive education and control we will soon be seeing the mortality rate switch into reverse. Generations will not live as long as the last and the quality of life they do live will be greatly affected by the poor health they suffer starting in childhood.

If you are reading this then either you are active and do not fall into the above category, or you are telling me that you are ready to take responsibility for your life. We can blame the food industry and we can make excuses for our own behavior but ultimately you either take responsibility for your own actions or you don’t. We can give away control, but we can never give away responsibility. You can give the control over to the food manufacturers and you can blame the advertisers and the government, the education system, your genetics, your job, your family. Ultimately though, how you behave is your responsibility and try as you might, you can not give that away, it is your responsibility for life.

For those of you who are active, for competition, or fun or for health (hopefully a combination), then you are taking responsibility and by doing so you are taking control.

What happened with the low carb phase was that personal control was thrown out of the window, it was perceived as being a way to be able to eat as much as you wanted as often as you wanted … as long as it wasn’t a carbohydrate. Just like the exercise machines that promise “Just 8 minutes a day”... everybody wanted that quick fix and there just isn’t one. Everyone has to be responsible for their own behavior and that is the one thing that everyone seems to want to avoid.
