Iodine’s Importance to Vibrant Health

Iodine is truly amazing and yet an estimated 95% of people are deficient! Iodine is not only important for proper thyroid gland function, it is also important for receptor sensitivity of the other hormones, in other words it helps all the hormones work better. Iodine possesses antibacterial, antiviral, antifungal, even anticarcinogenic properties. It can help with fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome, fibrocystic disease of the breast and breast cancer, ovarian cysts, autoimmune diseases, obesity and promotes the elimination of heavy metals including lead and mercury.
Why is everyone deficient? Most experts feel it is due to the fact that we get very little in our salt-conscious diets and due to the fact that iodine is leached from the body when drinking and bathing in chlorinated water. Furthermore, many feel the current daily requirements (the RDA is 150 mcg) are woefully low-12.5 mg (1,000 times more) may be needed or even more to replenish depleted bodily stores.

Although supplementation should be done with physician supervision, iodine is well tolerated by most people and in general these doses are without side effects.
